Wills & Estate Plans
While it is unpleasant to think about your own mortality, planning for the inevitable can give you and your loved ones peace of mind going forward. Decisions about dividing your property, providing for your spouse, appointing a guardian for your children, and settling other affairs must be made. If you do not make these decisions now by creating a will, the probate court will make them for your loved ones later, and the decisions the court makes may not be best for your family.
Having an attorney write your will not only ensures that your wishes will be followed; it also relieves your survivors of some of the burdens of settling your estate. When I draft your will I can include language to make the probate process easier on your executor by clearing some of the hurdles that they would face, saving them time, stress, and money.
A will is only one part of an overall Estate Plan. To protect yourself during life and exercise more control after death, your estate plan may also require:
- An Advance Directive
- A Financial Power of Attorney
- Trusts
- Updated Beneficiary Designations
Each of these documents is important and personal—allow me as your attorney to create them to best protect your interests and ensure that they are valid.
